Manang, Machhindra record wins

Kathmandu, July 7

Manang Marshyangdi Club and Machhindra Football Club registered victories in the Lalit Memorial U-18 Football Championship here at the ANFA Complex grounds today.

MMC defeated Friends 2-1 riding on goals from Srijan Raj Gautam and Raj Thokar. Rajiv Lopchan scored the consolation goal for Friends.

Gautam put MMC ahead in the 25th minute before Thokar doubled the tally in the 34th minute. Lopchan reduced the deficit for Friends in the 73rd minute and MMC hung on the lead to register the victory.

In another match, Binam Gurung scored the winning goal deep in the injury time as Machhindra beat New Road Team 2-1.

At a time when the match was heading towards a draw, Gurung found the back of the nets in the fifth minute of the injury time to give Machhindra their second victory in three matches.

Earlier, Bipin Gurung put Machhindra ahead in the 12th minute before NRT levelled the scores in the 55th minute through Man Kumar Rai’s goal.

With the win, Machhindra stayed on course for the quarter-finals with six points, while NRT have four points from three matches.

A total of 14 youth sides of ‘A’ division outfits are taking part in the tournament organised by All Nepal Football Association in memory of its acting president Lalit Krishna Shrestha, who died of electrocution at his newly-built residence.
