Manang Marsyangdi enter into Aaha Rara Gold Cup final
POKHARA: Defending champions Manang Marsyangdi Club defeated 10-man CMG Sankata Club with a solitary goal to advance into the final of the 15th Aaha Rara Gold Cup football tournament, played at the Pokhara Stadium on Thursday.
The MMC foreign striker Afeez Olawale scored a header in the 86th minute after Bikram Lama's long range free-kick gave him, unmarked, a chance to slot the ball home from a close range.
Sankata had been reduced to 10 men after Sushil KC was booked for two bookable offences.
FIFA referee Bikash Mahat had produced a red card to KC in the 63rd minute for the second offence after he used abusive words on Manang skipper Anil Gurung. Earlier, Gurung had fouled him.
The four-time champions Manang will take on the hosts Sahara Pokhara Club for the title on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Manang defender Rohit Chand was awarded the man-of-the-match for his overall display and his contribution to the team's triumph. National defender Chand was sidelined for a long time with a knee injury.
He was injured while plying his trade in Indonesian league with Persija Jakarta.
Sankata coach Salyan Khadgi accepted that it was his players' mistake to use abusive language during the game, leading to the defeat.
Similarly, Manang's coach Tshring Lopsang Gurung vowed to improve his midfield ball distribution to his strikers with accuracy. He was pleased with the overall team performance as they created numerous chances to kill the game.
