Mathews misses century, Sri Lanka all out for 393

MUMBAI: Angelo Mathews fell just one run short of his maiden test century as India dismissed Sri Lanka for a first innings-393 on the second day of the third and final cricket test Thursday.

Mathews pulled a short ball from paceman Shanthakumaran Sreesanth to deep square-leg, but was run out attempting to take a second run when he failed to beat Sachin Tendulkar’s accurate throw to wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Mathews hit 15 boundaries off 131 deliveries.

Resuming at the overnight score of 366-8, Sri Lanka added 27 runs for the loss of its remaining two wickets. The Sri Lankan innings folded soon after the departure of Mathews as last man Chanaka Welegedara (8) fell lbw to Pragyan Ojha (3-101).

India leads 1-0 in the series after winning the second test match by an innings and 144 runs.
