Mirza gets extra security

Kolkata, September 16:

Indian tennis star Sania Mirza will receive tight security during next week’s WTA tournament here after an Islamic group threatened to stop her playing because of the short skirts she wears on court. The Jamat-e-Ulema group in Mirza’s hometown of Hyderabad issued a statement last week warning Mirza to stop wearing short skirts and sleeve-less shirts, saying it was against their religion. Kolkata police said they will provide extra security for Mirza to ensure nothing untoward happened during the week-long $170,000 tournament starting here on Monday.
