MPC, APF win
Kathmandu, December 4:
Hari Khadka scored twice as Mahendra Police Club defeated Sankata Club 2-1 and Gyanendra Armed Police Force (APF) outplayed Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) 4-0 in the Martyrs’ Memorial San Miguel ‘A’ Division League matches today.
The win put the MPC on top of the standings with 25 points, three more than Tribhuvan Army Club. Defending champions MMC have 20 points, while Sankata remained ninth with eight points. APF jumped to fourth with 19 points and RCT remained at sixth with 14 points.
Khadka put the MPC ahead in the 44th minute with a header that narrowly beat diving Sankata goalkeeper Rupak Shrestha following Arjun Subedi’s cross. He doubled the lead in the 68th minute through a 20-yard volley. Sankata pulled one back in the 85th minute when Rabindra Shrestha left everyone stunned with a powerful drive from 20 yards.
Earlier, Mani Pandit, Prakash Karki, Sunil Subedi and Ganesh Lawati scored in APF’s thumping 4-0 win over injury-hit RCT, who lacked defender and skipper Madhu Karki and striker Rishi Rai. Pandit put his team ahead in the 30th minute on spot kick after Ashok Sen brought down Sunil Subedi inside the penalty box, while Karki doubled the lead following skipper Kumar Thapa’s pass.
Subedi made it 3-0 when he guided the ball from the centre line to beat RCT goalkeeper Dilip Chhetry in the 56th minute counterattack, while Lawati put the issue beyond doubt in the 85th minute when he fired past Chhetry from close range.
