MPC overpower Tribhuvan Club

Mahendra Police Club (MPC) came form one-goal down to beat Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) 2-1 in the day’s Super Six League match of the Martyrs’ Memorial Everest ‘A’ Division football tournament here at Dasharath Stadium today. MPC remained at second spot, a point behind leaders Three Star Club (36), while the armymen are at third position with 28 points, two points clear of the defending champions Manang Marsyangdi Club. The loss also ended new entrants TAC’s chase for the Rs 5,00,000 title. TAC took lead through substitute Hari Mahato in the 35th minute. Mahato netted the ball following Bisho Bairag Samal’s pass in the danger area. Fed by Jumanu Rai, Ananta Thapa netted netted an equaliser in the 77th minute.
Guiding the ball from 20 yards, stand-in skipper Ramesh Budhathoki scored the winner in the 80th minute. In the balanced match, TAC skipper missed as many as two close chances. In the fifth minute, TAC skipper Janamat Karki ended up with a wide shot on Raju Tamang’s cross and in the 83rd minute, his attempt went above the cross bar. In the 18th minute, Jumanu
Rai of MPC came close to scoring but his attempt was deflected hitting the post. In the 33rd minute, Kishor Subba’s 20 yarder powerful shot was brilliantly punched out by TAC goalkeeper Channu Ram Chaudhary. On Ananta Thapa’s cross, Raju Katuwal’s head attempt was also saved by TAC custodian Chaudhary in the first half injury time. Katuwal muffed up a chance in the 56th when he failed to convert in one-to-one situation with Chaudhary. In the 72nd minute TAC glovesman Chaudhary saved Ananta Thapa’s shot from outside the penalty area. Ananta Thapa and Rajendra Shrestha of MPC were cautioned with yellow card for their unsporting behaviour.
