Mumbai beat Pune in one-run-thriller to clinch IPL title

KATHMANDU: Mitchell Johnson held his nerves as he successfully defended 11 runs in the last over as Mumbai Indians defeated Rising Pune Supergiant by a solitary run to clinch the IPL title 2017.

The final match was played at theĀ  Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppali, in Hyderabad on Sunday evening.

Mumbai Indian finally broke the Rising Pune Supergiant jinx as they were beaten in a home and away fixtures and a crunching eliminator game.

After winning the toss, Mumbai Indian's captain Rohit Sharma opted to bat first, however, his decision backfired as they lost opener Parthiv Patel and Lendl Simmons in second over to pace spearhead Jayadev Unadkat.

Both the batsmen fell prey to Unadkat's off cutters' deliveries as he served them a heck of deliveries which swivel in the air to change the directions.

Simmons was caught and bowl by Unadkat as he tried to flick the ball over to the mid-wicket region, however, skied a catch to the bowler. Mumbai Indian's innings was in disarray and were reeling at 65-5 in the eleventh over.

Krunal Pandya steadied the innings with a patience 47 runs to knock off just 38 balls with three fours and two maximum hit to the fence.

Rising Pune Supergiant's bowler Jaydev Unadkat, Adam Zampa and Daniel Christian took two wickets each. They restricted the Mumbai Indian's for a 129 runs off for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

A Late blitz from Krunal Pandya was the highlight of Mumbai Indian's batting as other petered out at regular intervals.
