Nag, Triton advance to quarters

KATHMANDU: Nag Sports and Triton reached the third U-19 White House Cup National Basketball Tournament quarter-finals here today.

Held at the National Sports Council covered hall, Nag defeated Orient 26-12 and Triton eased past Xavier 47-20 in the women’s section. Nag were looking comfortable with a 5-0 and 9-0 lead in the first two quarters but Orient reduced the deficit scoring eight against the three of their opponents. Nag added another nine to that of four of the Orient in the last quarter. Sangita Shrestha top scored for the winners with 10 points.

Triton, meanwhile, were ahead in the first quarter 12-6 and added another 12 in the second when Xavier could only post six points. Triton maintained their lead in the third quarer with the scores of 8-5. It was all over for Xavier when they only scored a meagre three points when Triton posted another 15 in the final quarter. Ronahi Limbu netted 16 points for Triton.

National Campus and Xavier made it to the men's pre-quarterfinals winning their respective matches. In a thrilling match, Xavier laboured to a 46-44 win over VS Niketan riding on 11 points each from Raj Tamang and Arun Thapa while National defeated Orient 32-13 following a 10-point contribution from Rupesh Sunuwar. In another match, Bhupal Rai and Heman Rai netted 19 points each as Dharan defeated Kaski 66-54. Dharan are already into the last 16.
