Nepal lose to Namibia in ICC U-19 WC by 15 runs

KATHMANDU: Nepal Under-19 cricket team lost to Namibia in their match for the seventh place in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium of  Fatullah in Bangladesh on Thursday.

With this, Nepal have failed to automatically qualify for the ICC U-19 World Cup 2018.

Chasing the 226-run target posted by Nambia, Nepal made 210 runs losing all wickets.

Opening batman for Nepal, Shankar Rana, failed to make more than two runs as he was bowled out by Fritz Coetzee at 2.2 overs.

Michael van Lingen took three consecutive wickets. Sunil Dhamala was caught out by Lohan Louwrens in Lingen's ball at 19.6 overs after scoring 59 facing 63 balls.

Skipper Raju Rijal only managed to make a single as Namibian captain Zane Green caught him shot; returning Rijal's favour.

Yogendra Singh Karki made 35 off 64 balls before Louwrens caught his shot.

Dhamala and Karki made a partnership of 97 runs in 17.4 overs, Nepal's highest partnership in the series.

Ending another impressive partnership between Aarif Sheikh and Dipendra Singh Airee of 53 runs from 9.4 overs, Francois Rautenbach caught Shiekh's shot in Burton Jacobs' ball at 35.2 overs.

Airee also went back when Green caught his shot in Coetzee's ball with 31 runs in 36 balls.

Rajbir Singh and Kushal Bhurtel both went back with two runs before being bowled out by Coetzee at 39.4 and Jacobs at 40.2 respectively.

Sushil Kandel's wickets were blown away as he fell short to cross the line while running between the wickets with three runs.

Prem Tamang was working hard to win with excellent boundaries, but his another attempt was caught mid-air by Niko Davin, ending the innings at 44.2 overs. Tamang made 32 off 33 balls with four 4s and a 6.

Winning this match, Namibia have directly qualified to play the next ICC U-19 World Cup.

Namibia had won the toss and elected to bat first against Nepal. They ended the first innings with 225 runs losing nine wickets.

The match, which was scheduled to be played at 9 am, was delayed for around half-an-hour due to fog. It was reduced to 45 overs.

Nepal Vs Namibia: 226-run target for Nepal

KATHMANDU: Namibia Under-19 cricket team have posted a 226-run target to Nepal in their match for the seventh place in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium of  Fatullah in Bangladesh on Thursday.

Nepal were elated when Namibian opening batsman Niko Davin was sent back empty-handed by Sandeep Lamichhane on the very first ball, pitched by Sunil Dhamala.

Davin's opening partner, Jurgen Linde, scored 19 runs before being caught out by Dhamala in Sushil Kandel's ball at 15.6 overs.

The third wicket was claimed when captain and wicketkeeper Raju Rijal caught the ball sending Namibian captain Zane Green back with 17 runs off 35 balls.

Lohan Louwrens, who scored 59 with the game's first 6 in his name, was bowled out by Prem Tamang at 31.4 overs.

Charl Brits, who made a partnership of 31 runs in 5.5 overs with Louwrens, was sent back after 9 runs in Lamichhane's ball when Rijal made another catch.

After making 39 runs, Francois Rautenbach made a high swing aiming for the 6 in Lamichhane's ball. However, Dipendra Singh Airee caught it mid-air right at the boundary claiming another wicket.

Back to back, Lamichhane claimed another wicket, his third, as Yogendra Singh Karki caught Michael van Lingen's shot. Lamichhane is now the highest wicket taker in the U-19 category with 14 wickets so far.

Lingen, who scored 58 off 36 balls, made a stunning partnership of 99 runs in 10.3 overs with and Rautenbach that included six 4s and three 6s.

Skipper Rijal blew Fritz Coetzee's wickets with only one run in his account.

In the last over, Nepal claimed the ninth wicket with a run out sending Burton Jacobs back with zero runs.
