National cricket players to receive their long overdue salary

KATHMANDU: National cricket players will get their salary that had been halted following an International Cricket Council ban on the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) over a dispute in electing its new leadership.

The ICC has agreed to provide two years of salary (2017 and 2018) to the players on the initiatives of National Sports Council (NSC), said NSC's member secretary Keshab Kumar Bista.

"We have initiated the process. The ICC has agreed to this subject."

The ICC categorised players will get their salary within some weeks," he said to Rastriya Samachar Samiti. The ICC had banned the CAN in 2016 following its involvement in disputes over picking its new leadership.

The NSC will coordinate the salary distribution, said technical analysist for the national cricket team Raman Siwakoti.

The ICC categorised players in Group 'A', 'B' and 'C', according to which the salary will be distributed. Group 'A' categorised players are each entitled to a monthly salary of Rs 35,000.

Likewise, players grouped 'B' are entitled to a monthly salary of Rs 25,000 each, and group 'C' categorised players a monthly salary of Rs 15,000 each.
