National volleyball in Parbat in March

Kathmandu, January 25

Radio Didibahini is organising the first Didibahini Cup Women’s Volleyball Tournament in Kusma, Parbat from March 7-11.

Lawmaker as well as President of Radio Didibahini Kalpana Chapagain informed that the tournament is being organised to mark the 108th International Women’s Day during the ninth Western Women Festival and seventh anniversary of the radio.

“We are organising the tournament as the region is suitable for the game and it is a matter of pride for women of the region,” said Chapagain during a press meet here today.

A total of six teams — Nepal APF Club, Nepal Police Club, Tribhuvan Army Club, New Diamond Sports Club, Western Regional Volleyball Association and a local team — will compete in the tournament to be played in league-cum-knock out format.

Top three teams will receive Rs 100,000, Rs 60,000 and Rs 40,000 respectively, while the best player will get Rs 5,000. The best spiker, setter, quicker, blocker, defender and coach will be awarded with Rs 3,000 each. The estimated budget for the event is Rs 1.5 million.

Meanwhile, Nepal Volleyball Association General Secretary Jitendra Bahadur Chand informed that the association will provide the hosts with a net and two balls. “Volleyball tournaments are on the rise off late and the expenditure of the tournament can be raised by gate collection,” Chand said.

Lawmaker as well as Madan Bhandari Sports Academy President Binod Bista said the tournament will create favourable environment for volleyball players in the region. “I hope the tournament will support in the professionalism of volleyball players,” he added.
