Chakratirtha, New Era win

KATHMANDU: Chakratirtha and New Era Sports Academy won their respective matches in the first Valleywide Seven-A-Side Football Tournament here on Tuesday. Suman Balami scored a brace as Chakratirtha defeated Kathmandu Bahira Sangh 3-0. Surendra Ghale added the other for the winners. New Era overpowered Kuleshwor Club 4-2 with goals from Prashant Thapa, Deep Tamang, Khem Magar and Dorje Lama. Prateek Tuladhar and Nishan Chhetri replied for Kuleshwor.

Pawan, Gyanendra enter final

LALITPUR: Pawan Agrawal and Gyanendra Tamrakar entered men’s veterans (above 55yrs) final at the 10th Nepal Investment Bank Open Tennis Tournament on Tuesday. Pawan defeated Laxmi Gurung 6-3, 6-3 and Gyanendra earned a walkover win from Capt MK in the semi-finals. Kamal Thapa defeated Harbendra Singh Chaddha 7-5, 6-2 and Rajesh Chhetri earned a walkover win from Sobhit Man Shrestha to reach men’s veterans (above 35yrs) final. In the women’s veterans (above 35yrs) Ayusha Sigurdson and Jyoti Rana made it to the semi-finals. Ayusha overcame Sarju Tulachan 6-1, 6-2 and Jyotika eased past Ambika Karki 6-2, 6-1.

TAC, Jawalakhel triumph

BHAKTAPUR: Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) and Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre won the inaugural day matches of the seventh Nationwide Men’s Volleyball Tournament on Tuesday. TAC defeated Kavre District in straight sets 25-17, 25-15, 25-19 while Jawalakhel saw off Madhyapur Thimi Municipality 25-17, 25-18, 25-20. Deep Bahadur Khadka of TAC and Chandra Kunwar of Jawalakhel won the man-of-the-match awards. Nepal Police Club, Armed Police Force Club, Myagdi and Bhaktapur are the other teams in the tournament.
