Niraj shares lead

KATHMANDU: Niraj Niraula, former Nepal champion Punya Man Karmacharya and Ganesh Man Duwal share the lead with 5.5 points after the seventh round of the Makhan Rating Chess Tournament here today. Dharma Bahadur Lama, Sujendra Prasad Shrestha, Prachandra Malakar and Sajan Pandey are joint second with five points while Rajendra Prasad Shrestha, Prem Krishna Maharjan, Sitaram Agrawal, Suman Lama and Dhiraj Rajthala are next with four points each. National women champion Monalisha Khamboo is next with 3.5 points.

BSAM lift trophy

BHAKTAPUR: Birendra Sainik Awasiya Mahavidhyalaya (BSAM) clinched the Vidyadayini Inter-school Basketball Running Cup on Thursday. The BSAM defeated Mt Sinai English Boarding School 32-13 in the championship match. Bipin Thapa of BSAM and Sanjay Shrestha of Mt Sinai both contributed nine points for their teams. Bipin was also declared the Most Valuable Player while Sanjay finished the top scorer of the tournament. Former national team goalkeeper and skipper Upendra Man Singh gave away the prizes to the winners of the event.
