Kantipur claim title
KATHMANDU: Kantipur English School won the title of Kwik’s Inter-school Girls Basketball Tournament defeating Teresa Academy 31-23 here on Monday. Along with the title Kantipur pocketed Rs 51,000 cash prize while Teresa took home Rs 25,000. In the third place play off, Valley Public School defeated Trungram International Academy (TIA) 31-20 and received Rs 15,000. Samichan Bista of Valley Public posted 74 points in the entire tournament to get highest scorer’s award while TIA’s Anush Malla bagged the best three-pointer’s honour. The individual winners bagged Rs 3,000 each. Ronahi Limbu of Kantipur was adjudged the most popular player and pocketed Rs 5,000.
Makhan Rating Chess
KATHMANDU: The Makhan Chess Club are organising the first Makhan Rating Chess Tournament from February 15. In all 50 players — 30 rated and 20 unrated — will compete in the tournament, also participated in by the former Nepal champions Punya Man Karmacharya, Keshav Shrestha, Naveen Tandukar, Surbir Lama and FIDE Master Manish Hamal. The tournament will be played over 11 rounds in Swiss League format. The top three finishers will earn Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000, respectively, informed the organisers. Also, the other players in top 10 will get their share of cash prizes while the best among the unrated is also assured of cash prize.
