Veterans’ Judo
KATHMANDU: Surya Narayan Shrestha won the 35-45yrs category gold in the first National Veterans Judo Tournament on Saturday. Shrestha defeated Rim Bahadur Thapa while Birnedra Ranjit and Bal Chandra Gurung finished third. Khadga Bahadur Dahal won the 45-year category final defeating Ganga Bahadur Dangol. Chandra Dangol and Rishi Ram Pradhan finished third. The winners and the runners up earned Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively while the third place finishers took home Rs 1,000 each.
Team off to Lucknow
KATHMANDU: An 11-member Nepali badminton team left for Lucknow to participate at the Sayed Modi Memorial International Grand Prix Badminton Tournament slated for December 15-20. Bikash Shrestha, Ratnajeet Tamang, Pankaj Chand, Sajan Krishna Tamrakar, Sara Devi Tamang, Nangsala Devi Tamang, Punam Gurung and Sabina Panthi are the shuttlers to participate in the event. Nepal will compete in men’s and women’s singles and doubles along with mixed doubles event. The team is accompanied by coach Jayendra Shrestha, team leader Lava Bhakta Shrestha and manager Jagat Bahadur Khadka. A total of 15 nations are participating in the $50,000 tournament.
Kedar, Mohini win
KATHMANDU: Kedar Poudel and Mohini Khanal finished first in the Senior Citizens Motor Rally organised by Nepal Automobile Sports Association. Sanjeev Kumar and Bikash Bajracharya finished second while Rabina Sharma and Sharad Poudel ended up third. The top three finishers won Rs 27,000, Rs 9,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively. Nita Gharaiya and Rahul Gharaiya won the best driving award. The rally started from National Sports Council and ended in Nagarkot.
Rejina enter quarters
KATHMANDU: Rejina Amoris made it to the quarter-finals of the fourth Fr Moran Memorial Invitational Inter-school Football Tournament. Rejina beat Learning Realm International 1-0. Daffodil also joined Rejina in the last eight on Saturday. — HNS
Sky Lark in semis
KATHMANDU: Sky Lark and Grammar Public School advanced to the semi-finals of the first Midland Inter-school Mini-boys Basketball Tournament. Sky Lark saw off Shangrila 32-27 while Grammar beat Asian Public School 24-15. HIMS and New Shrine also entered the last four. HIMS hammered hosts Midland 32-8 and New Shrine overcame Unique 43-17.
