BARA: Nava Janajagriti Youth Club ‘White’ defeated Bijay Youth Club 4-1 in the opening match of the Ruslan ninth Simara Gold Cup here on Thursday.

Bishan Gurung, Tridev Gurung, Dhiraj Shrestha and foreign recruit Victor Aamohi scored a goal each for the hosts, while Amir Shrestha netted the consolation goal for Bijay.

Tridev Gurung won the man-of-the-match award and he received Rs 5,000.

In a match reduced to 80 minutes, the hosts took the lead in the last minute of the first half when Bishan Gurung found the back of the nets. Amir Shrestha levelled the scores four minutes into the second half after he met Sourav Magar’s back pass to his goalkeeper Bishal Shrestha.

Dhiraj Shrestha restored the lead in the 52nd minute before Victor made it 3-1 in the 80th minute and Tridev Gurung added one more in the injury time to complete the convincing victory.

On Friday, NJYC ‘Blue’ will take on Nepal APF Club. The hosts fielded two teams after Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club withdrew from the tournament.
