Kathmandu, October 15

Tribhuvan Army Club today felicitated six ultra runners who had won medals in different international events.

Chief of the Army Staff Rajendra Chhetri handed over letter of felicitation and cash to Tirtha Bahadur Tamang, Samir Tamang, Purna Tamang, Bed Bahadur Sunuwar, Bhim Bahadur Gurung and Rojina Bhandari amidst a function. The amounts given to the players were not disclosed.

Tirtha Bahadur Tamang had won gold medals in four events — UTMR Italy-Switzerland, Serzeenal Marathon in Switzerland, Vibram Marathon and Oxfarm Trail Walker in Hong Kong — last year. Similarly, Samir Tamang had finished first in the 50km race in Austria apart from winning bronze medal in North Poll Marathon last year, while Purna Tamang had won silver medal in the Xingy International Marathon in China last year and claimed gold in the North Face Race in Hong Kong in 2013.

Sunuwar had claimed gold medal in the North Face event in Hong Kong in 2015, while Gurung earned first position in the Ultra Trail Sky Running in France and Sky Running in Italy earlier this year. Likewise, Rejina Bhandari had won gold medals in the 64km Ultra Marathon Running and Trubelstock Ultra Marathon in Switzerland this year.

After felicitating the athletes, CoAS Chhetri said the medals won by the TAC runners were not only the pride of the Nepali Army but of the nation as well. “We will provide adequate support to the athletes in coming days,” he said.
