Nepal claim bronze

COLOMBO:

Jumanu Rai and Pradeep Maharjan scored a goal each as the Nepali Under-23 football team defeated India 2-0 to win the bronze medal at the 10th SAG here today. Jumanu scored three minutes into the game, while Pradeep doubled the tally in the 14th minute.

This was Nepal’s first medal in football since winning the silver in the eighth SAF Games in Kathmandu in 1999. Ganesh Thapa, president of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), announced to reward the players with Rs 50,000 each amid a felicitation programme in Kathmandu.

Meanwhile, Pakistan defended their title beating Sri Lanka 1-0 in final today.
