Nepal to face Bhutan in SAFF Women’s Championship opener

Kathmandu, November 18

Nepal will face Bhutan in the opener of the SAFF Women’s Championship slated to be held at the Kanchanjunga Stadium in Siliguri, India from December 26 to January 4.

Three-time runners-up Nepal, who are in Group A along with Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Maldives, will play their opener against Bhutan on December 26.

They will face Maldives two days later and Sri Lanka on December 30. The semi-finals and final are slated for January 2 and 4 respectively.

Group B is comprised of three-time champions as well as hosts India, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

Pakistan, who hosted last edition of the competition in 2014, are not competing in the tournament.

As per the news report of Pakistani newsportal down.com, Pakistan are not taking part in the competition due to dispute in the Pakistani Football Federation (PFF), which has been split into two factions.

Meanwhile, All Nepal Football Association has called up 72 players, 20 members of the 12th South Asian Games silver medalist team, for the training.

Kumar Thapa is the head coach, Asmita Khawas is the assitant coach and Shivanee Thapa is the team manager of the team.
