Nepal finish 18th

KATHMANDU: Nepal amateur golf team finished 18th in the 23-nation Nomura Cup at the Sungai Long Golf and Country Club in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.

The Nepali team of Tanka Bahadur Karki, Sukra Bahadur Rai, Prithvi Malla and Tashi Ghale amassed a total score of 76-over 940 in the four-day tournament.

On the final day, Rai carded two-over 74, while Karki and Malla played nine-over 81 and Ghale fired 14-over 86. Nepal finished ahead of five countries, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan.

Thailand won the trophy with the total score of 56-under 808, while Japan were a distant second at 820. Australia came third at 825, ahead of New Zealand (832) and South Korea (840).

Karki was the best among the Nepali golfers as he shot four-over 76 in the first three rounds before firing a nine-over 81 on the final day.

Rai produced the best card of the tournament among Nepali golfers, carding a two-over 74 in the final round.
