Nepal hold India 1-1

Kathmandu, August 16:

Santosh Sahukhala once again rescued Nepal to a 1-1 draw against India in the 10th South Asian Games at Sugathdasa Stadium in Colombo today. Sahukhala’s second half injury-time goal against Bangladesh in the Group B match on Monday had salvaged Nepal to a 1-1 draw.

Sahukhala drew level in the 78th minute through the spot kick. Gobin Singh handled the ball inside the box and referee C Ravichandran pointed towards the spot kick. Singh was sent off for second offence of the match.

After playing a goalless draw in the first half, India finally broke apart the Nepali defence and Sochil Kumar put India ahead in the 63rd minute. Anil Gurung of Nepal was sent off in 88th minute for his second bookable offence.

With the result Nepal toped the Group B on goal difference. All four teams are tied on two points. Afghanistan held Bangladesh to a goalless draw in another match.

“We played better but goal is what matters in football” Nepal Coach Shyam Thapa said. Thapa was also unhappy with his players indiscipline.
