Nepal play draws
KATHMANDU: Both the Nepali teams played draws against their opponents in the the fourth round of the 42nd Chess Olympiad in Baku, Azerbaijan on Monday. Men’s team played a 2-2 draw against South Korea, while women’s team also eked out similar results against Botswana. The 2034-rated Sajin Maharjan beat 2025-rated Yongjoon Chon, while 2017-rated FIDE Master Bilam Lal Shrestha edged past 2111-rated Sehyun Kwon. The 2099-rated Candidate Master Keshav Shrestha went down to 2238-rated FM Jun Hyeok Lee and 2017-rated CM Bhupendra Niraula faced a defeat against 1950-rated Saebyeok Kim. In women’s category, 1470-rated WCM Monalisa Khamboo beat 1531-rated Mabedi Mbo and 1488-rated Sujata Lohani defeated Khumo Mooketsi. The 1632-rated Ashmita Adhikari suffered defeat against 1777-rated International Master Onkemetse Francis and 1693-rated Shanta Thapa lost to 1700-rated FM Thapelo Francis. The men’s team will play Malta and women’s team face Ireland in the fifth round.
