Nepal Police Club joined Bhatbhateni Samriddhi Gorillas in the women’s section final of the Kwiks Nepal Basketball League here on Saturday.

NPC faced a 64-64 loss at the hands of ISO Kite and the departmental side managed to finish second in the four-team table despite being tied on nine points. Kite needed to win the match by 13-point margin to edge past the departmental side. Kite fell five-point behind after NPC won first three quarters 13-12, 19-17 and 15-13 respectively.

Kite bounced back in the final period and took it 22-15 to win the match by two points but that was not enough for them from being eliminated from the group stage. Kite’s foreign recruit Mary Joy Galicia was named the player of the match for her 21 points along with 13 rebounds, four assists and three steals.

In another match, Saipal Academy defeated already-qualified Gorillas 71-41 for their first victory. Saipal opened up with a 22-7 lead and never looked back. They took the second quarter 12-9 before winning 18-11 and 19-14 in the last two periods. Player of the match Roshni Shrestha of Saipal netted 26 points. Gorillas finished first with 11 points from six matches.

In men’s section, Tribhuvan Army Club, Times International Club, Nepal Police Club and Golden Gate International Club have made it to the playoffs.
