Nepal suffer to all-time low score, batting woes again
Kathmandu, December 2
Nepal suffered to the all-time low score of 21 runs in their 99-run defeat against mighty India in the ACC Women’s Asia Cup match at the Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok today.
Defending champions India scored 120-5 in their allotted 20 overs before pacing the hapless Nepal for a paltry 21 runs in 16.3 overs.
The total included seven extras but that was not enough for Nepal to prevent them from the previous lowest score of 23 runs which they scored against Sri Lanka in their second match of the tournament. With the win, India earned a place in the final.
Sarita Magar was the highest scorer for Nepal with six off 21 balls, while opener Jyoti Pandey, skipper Rubina Chhetri and Karuna Bhandari were the joint second highest scorer with two runs each.
Sita Rana Magar and Roshani Bohara were able to open their accounts, while Nary Thapa, Neera Rajopadhyay, Sobha Aale and Sangita Rai were out for ducks. None of the Nepali batters could hit a single boundary.
India’s Poonam Yadav picked up three wickets, while Sabbhineni Meghana and Anuja Patel grabbed two each. Shikha Pandey, Mansi Joshi and Ekta Bisht also claimed a wicket apiece.
Eariler, Shikha Pandey’s unbeaten 32-ball 39 put India in comfortable zone. Pandey hit five boundaries. Nepal’s skipper Chhetri pocketed two wickets, while Sita Rana Magar and Karuna Bhandari took a wicket each.
The defeat also left Nepal as the only team who failed to win a single match in the six-team competition.
Nepal lost their opening match by nine wickets against Pakistan, faced an eight-wicket defeat against Sri Lanka, went down by 92 runs at the hands of Bangladesh before they suffered an eight-wicket defeat against hosts Thailand.
Nepal had earned the chance to play in the Asia Cup after they finished second in the World Cup Qualifiers Asia Zone in Hong Kong last month.
