Taekwondo fraternity felicitates WTF President

Kathmandu, October 25

The Nepal Taekwondo Association today honoured World Taekwondo Federation President Dr Chungwon Choue for his contribution in the development of the sport.

Minister for Youth and Sports Daljit Sripaili, Minister for Irrigation Deepak Giri, Nepal Olympic Committee President Jeevan Ram Shrestha and NTA President Prakash Shumsher Rana felicitated Choue amidst a programme organised to mark the Deepawali and Chhat festivals.

According to NTA President Rana, the association honoured Choue for his contribution in the sport as well as his support to the Nepali association especially in relief after last year’s devastating earthquake. Minister Sripaili also lauded Choue’s support for the earthquake victims. Choue is in Nepal in his personal visit but he participated in number of sporting events and also met Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Chief of the Army Staff Rajendra Chhetri among other high ranking officials.

Choue, who has been at the helm of the WTF since 2004, thanked the NTA for the felicitation and said WTF would continue supporting Nepali taekwondo fraternity in coming days as well. He also said that the Nepali taekwondo players had the potential to win medals in the Olympic Games. “Nepali players are capable of winning medals in Asian Games and Olympic Games and the only thing they need do is work and practice hard,” he said. “We will have a Olympic Games gold medallist from Nepal in near future,” said Choue. This is Choue’s second visit to Nepal in a year.
