Nepal take on Thailand today

Kathmandu, November 19

Nepal will take on hosts Thailand in the opening match of the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifiers for Asia Region at the Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok on Monday.

A total of six teams — Nepal, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates and Malaysia — are competing in the round robin tournament. After the league matches, top two teams will advance to the final and the winners will earn berth in the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifiers to be held in Netherlands in June next year.

Nepal will play their second match against Hong Kong on November 21 before taking on the UAE on November 23 and Malaysia the following day.  Nepal will play their fifth match against China on November 26. The final and third place playoff matches are slated for November 27.

Before leaving for Thailand, Nepali team had travelled to Bangladesh for a week to prepare for the qualifiers. Nepal played four practice matches against local teams and recorded victories in two matches.

Rubina Chhetri is skipper of the team, while Sita Rana Magar (vice-captain), Jyoti Pandey, Sarita Magar, Nery Thapa, Roma Thapa, Indu Barma, Karuna Bhandari, Sonu Khadka, Laxmi Chaudhary, Ritu Kanojiya, Sangita Rai, Kajol Shrestha and Sabnam Rai are the other members of the team.
