Neupane stars in Three Star victory

Jhapa, March 6

Goalkeeper Alan Neupane stopped two penalties as Ruslan Three Star Club defeated Nepal Police Club 3-0 in tie-breaker in the quarter-finals of the Mugmug Jhapa Gold Cup Football Tournament here today.

The match was decided on penalties after both the teams failed to score in regulation period. Three Star will now face hosts Jhapa-XI for a place in the final.

In tie-breaker, Three Star custodian Neupane saved the first two kicks from Ajit Bhandari and skipper Bharat Shah to put his team in driving seat. Bijay Dhimal and Buddha Chemjong scored for Three Star, while skipper Bikram Lama wasted his shot. NPC striker Ravi Paswan then shot wide before Rupesh KC sealed the victory for Three Star.

Three Star goalkeeper Neupane was named the man of the match and he earned Rs 15,000.

On Thursday, Lali Rupandehi Football Club will take on Dauphins Family Club of Cameroon in the fourth and final quarter-final match of the tournament.

Dauphins replaced Signature Manang Marshyangdi Club after the Martyrs Memorial A Division League champions pulled out of the tournament.
