Nexus Cup U-16 from today

Nexus Cricket Academy is organising the Nexus Cup U-16 National Twenty20 Cricket Tournament here from Wednesday.

A  total of 28 teams from different parts of the country will compete in  the league-cum-knockout tournament which will be played at different three venues,  informed NCA President Bharat Kumar Shahi at a press meet today.

The participating teams have been divided into four groups with top two each from all groups advancing to the quarter-finals. The matches will be played at Budhanilkantha School, Laboratory School and Tribhuvan University Stadium grounds. The final is  on April 21.

The winners of the tournament will get Rs 150,000, while runners-up will receive Rs 100,000. The best player will take home Rs 20,000, while the emerging player will receive Rs 15,000. Likewise, the best bowler and batsmen will get Rs 10,000 each. The estimated budget for the competition is Rs 5.8 million, informed Shahi.

The Academy, which is co-owned by national team member Sompal Kami, has been organising U-13 tournament every year and Shahi said they were also planning to include a U-19 event in the calendar.

“We do not have any title sponsor for this tournament, but we are capable of making it a grand success. This is our first attempt in organising the Under-16 tournament and we are committed to give continuity to this event apart from the U-13 tournament that we organise every year,” said Shahi.
