Pokhara, February 2 Nepal Police Club came from a goal down to beat CMG Club Sankata 2-1 and advanced to the quarter-finals of the sixth Manakamana Cable Car Pokhara Cup Football Tournament here at the Pokhara Stadium today. Abhishek Rijal and Ravi Paswan scored a goal each for the departmental side after Ellon Maxwell had put Sankata ahead early in the match. Sankata went ahead in the 11th minute when Maxwell slotted home from inside the penalty box following a pass from Subash Gurung. NPC levelled the scores in the 31st minute. Rijal found the back of the nets utilising a pass from Nir Kumar Rai. Paswan then put the departmental side ahead in the 54th minute capitalizing on defensive error and that was enough for the NPC to win the match. Sankata goalkeeper Raja Babu Thapa was unaware of the back pass from Tampi Earnest and man-of-the-match Paswan met the ball before firing past the custodian. “We just played another match two days ago and we came to the stadium without much preparation. There were some problems during the match but we were able to come from behind to win the match. We have taken that as an achievement,” said NPC coach Ananta Thapa, who has already won the Nepal Ice third Farwest Khaptad Gold Cup title. Sankata coach Salyan Khadgi said the team conceded the second goal due to the mistake of defender. “He should have simply cleared the ball but he gave a back pass and NPC capitalised on that error,” added Khadka, whose side finished as runners-up in the Pulsar Martyrs Memorial A Division League. On Sunday, Ruslan Three Star Club will take on Nepal APF Club in the first quarter-final match of the tournament organised by Kaski District Football Association under the sponsorship of Manakamana Darshan Pvt Ltd.
