NRT, NPC resume with wins
KATHMANDU: Leaders New Road Team (NRT) and defending champions Nepali Police Club (NPC) resumed the second leg of the Martyrs Memorial San Miguel A Division League with wins here today.
In the first match at the Dasharath Stadium, Jeevan Sinkeman scored a brace
in NRT’s 2-0 win over
bottom of the table Boys Union Club (BUC) while goals from Ju Manu Rai and Chetan Ghimire gave NPC the identical victory against Sankata Kathmandu Mall Club. The results meant NRT stay on top with 27 points, one more than NPC.
NRT were on target in the seventh minute when Jeevan controlled a cross from Biraj Maharjan and slotted home from close, dodging a BUC defender. Nirajan Rayamajhi was close to scoring in the 44th minute with a powerful close range shot but BUC goalie Binaya Shrestha made an acrobatic save.
NRT added another goal in three eventful minutes in the second half. BUC forward Tanka Basnet’s powerful shot from edge of the box hit the back post in the 68th minute and a minute later in counter attack Danish striker Sayan Mosavi erred by not passing the ball to his two unmarked mates when goalie Binaya had advanced forward. Jeevan then applied a flick-on to score from a tight angle in the 70th.
NRT coach Diken Suwal was disappointed with his midfielders. “It was a poor show. We have brought in two Brazilians and I am hoping they could fill the gap,” said Suwal. NRT will field two Brazilians — Gabriel Da Silva and Leandro Da Silva — in their next match against Sankata as attacking midfielders. BUC coach Kumar Katuwal said he was helpless as every department of his team was failing to perform.
In the other match, Sankata failed to cash in on a weak show from the Policemen in absence of their influential midfielder Bhola Silwal who is out with a groin injury for at least three weeks. NPC took a 39th minute lead through a Ju Manu Rai’s spot kick, which was awarded after defender Kovid Karki handled the ball in danger zone. Pradip again played part in NPC’s second goal as his header rebounded off the bar for Chetan to shoot home. NPC coach Birat Krishna Shrestha said he was lucky to claim three points. “The strikers and midfielders were unable to control the ball. They didn’t play our game at all,” said the coach.
