Ntini wrecks Australians

Cape Town, March 4:

Makhaya Ntini took the best figures by a South African in one-day international as South Africa crushed Australia by 196 runs in the second one-day international at Newlands on Friday. The win put South Africa 2-0 up in a five-match series.

Ntini took four wickets in the opening spell and finished with 6-22 as Australia were bowled out for 93, their fourth-lowest all-time total. Herschelle Gibbs and Justin Kemp hit aggressive but contrasting half-centuries as South Africa posted an imposing total of 289/7. Gibbs made 66 and Kemp an unbeaten 51.

Australia hopes was blasted away by Ntini, who took two wickets in his first over and had figures of four for four after five overs. His final figures were better than the 6-23 by Allan Donald against Kenya.

In the last ten overs of South Africa, Kemp and Shaun Pollock put on 62 off 45 balls stand.
