Kathmandu, December 27:

The Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) said the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has agreed upon Nepal’s proposal to hold the OCA Regional Forum meeting in Kathmandu

in May 2009.

“We had put forward the proposal during the OCA’s general assembly in Kuwait,” said NOC president Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan. The OCA Regional Forum meeting will be attended by the representatives of IOC, OCA, Beijing Olympics Organising Committee, 16th Asian Games Organising Committee, Asian Beach Games Organising Committee and Olympic representatives of South Asian Region.

NOC general secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha said the meeting would discuss on the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, 16th Asian Games to be held in South Korea in 2010 and first Asian Beach Games in Bali in October 2009.

Shrestha also informed that Nepal were planning to participate in three disciplines — beach volleyball, body building and traithalon — out of 13 in the Asian Beach Games.

Pradhan said that the Beijing Olympic DRM (Delegation Registration Meeting) Meeting for South Asia will also be held in Kathmandu at the same time. The meeting will decide the number of delegations of the South Asian countries in the Beijing Olympics.

Pradhan said they have applied for wild cards in Judo and Weightlifting at the Olympics. “As Deepak Bista qualified in taekwondo, swimming and athletics will get direct entries, we have applied for wild cards for Debu Thapa (judo) and Kamal Bahadur Adhikari (weightlifting).”

“We are waiting the results of shooting while boxers are yet to take part in qualifiers,” said Pradhan. Fulmaya Kyapachhaki and Bhagwati Khatri are in Kuwait for the qualifiers, while three boxers are slated to go to Bangkok next month to participate in the qualifying tournament.
