Open Skateboarding C’ship today

Nepal Skating and Skateboarding Association is all set to organise the second National Open Skateboarding Championship at the Annapurna Skate Park in Pokhara on Saturday.

NSSA President Achyut Khanal informed that preparations for the tournament was over and the event was being organised with the aim of producing players who will represent Nepal in international competitions.

A total of 100 players from 20 districts will take part in the event which will feature boys’ U-14 and above-14 events as well as girls category.

The winners and runners-up of all three categories will get RS 5,000 and Rs 2,500 along with skateboards, while third-placed players will receive skate boards.

NSSA Vice-president Choodamani Khanal said the association was planning to provide the players and coaches with training. “We are in talks with international bodies to organise training for the players and coaches to attract them into the sport,” he added.

Western Regional Sports Development Committee President Khagaraj Paudel said the event would be helpful in promoting tourism. “The tournament will not only help in promoting the game but it will also support the tourism sector of Pokhara,” said Paudel.
