Pak end Nepals hopes in handball

DHAKA; Nepal's hopes of making it to the handball finals ended with a 15-45 defeat to Pakistan here today. Bipin Bista top scored for Nepal with four goals while Amar Shresha netted three, Bishal Nepali and Dinesh Kumar Bista scored two each. Padam Bahadur Nepali, Tara Bahadur Thapa, Kodi Lal Chaudhary and Ful Dev Chaudhary got one goal each for Nepal. Nepal will now play for bronze medal against the loser of second semi-final.

Meanwhile, Nepal Handball Association President Tej Gurung was nominated as the vice-president of the South Asian Handball Federation (SAHF) on Thursday. The International Handball Federation congress held in Cairo in 2009 had proposed Gurung as one of the three SAHF vice-presidents. A meeting of the SAHF held here on Thursday endorsed the Cairo proposal. Gurung's tenure will be of four years. The meeting also decided to hold various South Asian level tournaments. India will host Men and Women's Championships in Ludhiyana in September, and U-19 Championship in January 2011 in Lucknow. Likewise, Sri Lanka was named the hosts of the 2010 Beach Handball Championship in June-July and Bangladesh the organisers of the 2010 Challenge Trophy.
