Fawad Alam crowned player of the match for his skillful century amid difficult batting conditions

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 29

The Pakistan cricket team has registered a comfortable seven wicket victory over visiting South African guests in the first of the two-test series, on Friday.

Fawad Alam, who appeared into the scene following a gap exceeding a decade in recent New Zealand series, was crowned the player of the match for his brilliant 109 off 245 deliveries in the first innings.

Debutant left-arm spinner Nauman Ali dented five South African wickets for 35 to brush aside the South African tail in their second innings, ushering the hosts to a victory in the fourth day of the test match at the Karachi-based national stadium.

Alam has drawn widespread appreciation after hitting commendable 100s both in the New Zealand series and now at home, after being left out of the side's test squad for 88 matches, second longest gap by a Pakistani in test cricket only dwarfed by Younis Ahmed's 104 tests gap.

The teams are scheduled to contest for the second test match on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.
