Bhairahawa, May 15
The organisers of the Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon started the Lumbini Peace March and Peace Flame campaign to Mt Everest Base Camp from Lumbini today.
The main motive of the march is to join Lumbini and Mt Everest, informed organiser Himex Nepal. Olympian Baikuntha Mahandhar, Krishna Basnet, Khadga Ranabhat and international player Shah Banu Khan will take flame to the Base Camp.
The flame was taken to the Maya Devi temple, Badganga river and later to Parasi on the first day. The flame will be brought to Kathmandu on Monday. After a round at Boudhanath Stupa and Swayambhunath for the special puja, the flame will be taken to Solu via road route. The flame is scheduled to reach the Base Camp on May 27, two says before the start of the 14th edition of the Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon, the organisers informed.
“The aim of the campaign is to join Mt Everest and Lumbini, the convenor of the Race Bikram Pandey said. “After last year’s earthquake, the tourism industry of Nepal suffered badly. Through this event, we want to revive the industry,” he said.
