Khanal, Rana triumph

Pranav Khanal and Mayanka Rana won the singles titles of the Butwal Open Lawn Tennis Tournament here at Devinagar today.

Khanal defeated Santosh Khatri 6-2, 6-2 in the men’s singles final, while Rana defeated her sister Mahika Rana 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 to win the women’s singles title. The winners received Rs 55,000 each along with medals and certificates, while the runners-up earned Rs 25,000 apiece.

Likewise, men’s section third-place finishers Jitendra Pariyar and Pradip Khadka and women’s category losing semi-finalists Eni Mathema and Abhilasha Bista received Rs 10,000 each.

Meanwhile, Kamal Bhandari and Anil Century won the Fun Doubles section title with an 8-1 victory over Jitendra Pariyar and Abdul Sahamat. The winners received Rs 35,000, while the runners-up earned Rs 20,000. Bhandari had also bagged the above-35 veteran singles title on Monday and he received Rs 45,000, while runner-up Rohit Sunuwar earned Rs 25,000. Third-placed Raju Shrestha and Atmaram Karki got Rs 10,000 each.

Likewise, Chandra Shahi won the above-45 veteran singles title, while Bimal Gurung finished second. Dharma Singh Lamichhane and Bikash Gurungcame joint third. In above-55 veteran singles, Krishna Prasad Ghale and Kamal Thapa claimed top two positions respectively. The winners of above-45 and above-55 sections received Rs 35,000 each, while the runners-up earned Rs 20,000 apiece. Likewise, third-place finishers got Rs 10,000 each.

Butwal Sub-metropolitan City Mayor Shiva Raj Subedi, All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association President JyotiRana, Butwal Club President Gopal Gyawali among others handed over the prizes to the winners. Meanwhile, ANLTA President JyotiRana felicitated Butwal Club President Gyawali and former ANLTA President Manoj Rana donated Rs 25,000 to the club.
