Public Youth, White House triumph

Kathmandu, September 19:

Public Youth Campus (PYC) registered a comprehensive 75-26 win over Rato Bangala in the men’s section match at the Samsung National Basketball Championship here at the National Sports Council covered hall today.

PYC got hold of the match early in the first quarter scoring a massive 21 points while restricting Rato Bangala to just six points. PYC extended their lead in the next two quarters scoring 12 and 14 points limiting Rato Bangala to 10 and six points. The final fourth quarter saw PYC score 28 against four of Rato Bangala, winning the match by 49-point margin. Bikram netted highest 21 points for PYC.

In another men’s section match, Golden Gate Club beat Gyanodaya College 70-62. Bipin Maharjan of Golden Gate and Binod Maharjan of Gyanodaya contributed 19 points each for their teams. Also, Himalayan White House defeated Learning Realm International (LRI) 73-47. Satish Pradhan of White House and Sudip KC of LRI netted 17 points apiece.

Rato Bangala bounced back strongly in the last two quarters to defeat Rhododendron International Boarding School (RIBS) 46-43 in the women’s section match. Rato Bangala started with scores of six and 10 in the first two quarters to that of the 19 and 12 of RIBS but overcame 15-point deficit scoring 16 and 14 in the final two quarters. While Rato Bangala improved their performance as the match progressed, RIBS lost their scoring touch adding just 10 and two points in the last two quarters losing the match by just three points.

In other women’s matches, Gyani netted 11 points as Prime Sports Club beat Bishal Nagar

Club 34-27 and Oasis overcame Shooters 38-36. Shrine Academy got a walkover win from Mahendra Bhawan in another women’s section match.
