Purushottam Bajracharya of Lalitpur-6 lifted the menâ€™s singles title of the Valley wide Inter-City Ward Table Tennis Championship organised by Democratic National Youth Federation Nepal at the Table Tennis Training Centre on Monday.
In the final, Purushottam defeated Chandan Koju 4-2.
Purushottam won the first set 11-9, while lost the second 9-11. Two points back Purushottam took two service points to make the score 6-6 in the third set and won 11-8.
Purushottam won the fourth set 11-6, taking advantage of his opponent Kojuâ€™s impatience during the play.
Using the volleyball-style shot Koju clinched the fifth set 11-7, while Purushottam, who was very good at defending sealed the victory winning the sixt set 11-3.
Earlier, in the semifinals, Purushottam defeated Raj Kumar Shahi of Ward No 6 of Lalitpur 11-5, 13-11, 6-11, 11-9, while Koju took berth in the final beating Rakesh Shakya of Ward no 28 of Kathmandu 10-12, 4-11, 11-8, 11-4, 11-8.
Rita Prajapati and Ramita Prajapati of Bhaktapur-6 grabbed top two spots in the ladiesâ€™ singles category. Purushottam Bajracharya and Raj Kumar Shahi of Lalitpur-6 grabbed menâ€™s doubles title, while Chandan Koju and Raj Kumar Suwal of Bhaktapu16 stood second.
Chandan Shahi, Ajay Suwal, Deep Saun and Basanta Karki of Kathmandu-29 pocketed the team event title, while Purushottam Bajracharya, Raj Kumar Shahi, Suresh Awale and Niraj Maharjan emerged second.
Krishna Gopal Maharjan, central committee member of United Marxist and Leninist gave away prizes to the winners. Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony, DNYF Sports Division chief Purendra Bikram Lakhe announced that the DNYF has planned to organise a National-level Table Tennis Championship in near future.
