Ramechhap beat Shyama in final

JIRI: Ramechhap Youth Network defeated Shyama VDC 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22 in the final of the Hemanta Memorial Cup Open Volleyball Tournament held during the Jiri Sports Festival today.

With the victory, Ramechhap received Rs 30,000, while Shyama bagged Rs 20,000. Ramechhap also claimed three individual awards — Chandra Shrestha (best player), Deepak Thapa (best spiker) and Prasanna KC (best setter). Vivek Krishna Khambu of Shyama was declared the best blocker, while Rajesh Karki of Hatdada was named the rising star. Mali VDC finished third beating Singata VDC on Friday.

On the inaugural day of the Sports Festival on October 6, Krishna Basnet of Ramechhap and Chyanlamu Sherpa of Dolakha had won the open road races. Krishna won the 6km race in 20 minutes and 12 seconds. Prem Lamichhane of Barda Bahadur Batallion came second in 21:20, while Keshav Karki finished third in 22:25.

Chyanlamu bagged the 2km race title with the timing of eight minutes and eight seconds, three seconds ahead of Bina Jirel of Jiri. Susmita Khadka came third. In all, 17 athletes had taken part in the event. The top three players of both the races received Rs 2,000, Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,000 respectively.
