Rana takes his personal gold medal tally to five

LALTPUR: Sailesh Rana won two more gold to take his personal medal tally to five in the fifth Pramod Memorial Age-group and Open Swimming Championships here today.

Rana won 200m breaststroke and 100m freestyle gold today. He had won three gold medals -- 200m freestyle, 200m backstroke and 50m breaststroke -- on Tuesday. Rana won the 200m breaststroke in 2 minutes, 56.37 seconds and 100m freestyle in 1 minute, 02.35 seconds. Baninsensha Shresha and Kisim Lal Tharu claimed silver and bronze in 200m breaststroke while Prasiddha Jung Shah and Milan Thapa finished second and third in the 100m freestyle.

Puspa Raj Shahi clinched the 100m backstroke in 1:26.78, ahead of Sailesh Rana and Prakash Adhikari. Chandra Singh Mahato, meanwhile, claimed the 50m butterfly gold in 28.18 seconds. Sailesh and Lal Bahadur Mahato won 50m butterfly silver and bronze medals respectively.

Karishma Karki took her personal medal tally to four when she won 200m freestyle and 100m butterfly gold medals. Karishma won the 200m freestyle in 2:43.71 and 100m freestyle in 1:22.78. Karishma had won 200m individual medley and 50m backstroke gold medals on Tuesday. Saila Rana and Shreya Dhital won silver and bronze medals respectively in both 200m freestyle and 100m butterfly. Saila won the 50m breaststroke gold in 43.76 seconds. Sudha Shrestha claimed silver and Awashree Gurung the bronze in the event.

In the age-group championships, Kumari Tamang clinched the 200m breaststroke gold in U-17 section with the timing of 1:51.57. Sadikchhya Thakuri and Ekta Gurung finished second and third respectively. Samita Magar (50.34) won the 50m breaststroke gold in U-17 section. Other winners in the age-group events were Shila Gurung (U-12) in 50m breaststroke, Surangana Bamjam (U-17) in 50m freestyle, Shreya Dhital (U-14) in 50m butterfly and Pita Thuring (U-12) in 50m freestyle. Little Angels claimed the girls' 4x50 metre relay.

Winners in the boys' section include Shiris Thapa (U-12) in 50m backstroke, Prakash Adhikari (U-17) in 100m butterfly, Jayant Prakash Gurung (U-14) in 50m butterfly and Baninsensha (U-17) in 50m breaststroke.
