Rayamajhi clinches golf trophy
Kathmandu, March 10:
Captain N Rayamajhi won the Indian Ambassador’s Cup Golf Tournament 2007 here at the Le Meridien Gokarna Forest Golf Resort and Spa today.
Played at stable ford 3/4 handicap format, Rayamajhi accumulated a total 42 points ahead of Maj Gen Om Pun, who earned 39. AT Sherpa won the 1/9 handicap section award with 38 points, while Rupak Acharya came second with 36. DIG Niraj Pun won the the 10/18 handicap section with 34 points ahead of Charlie Gurung, who earned 33.
Kalyani Moktan won the ladies section trophy on count back beating Ritu Thakuri after both the golfers were tied at 26 points. Lt Gen KNS Thapa won the veterans’ (above 60) section award with 33 points and DC Khanna earned 30 for the second position.
Raj Pradhan was the winner of the young golfers (below 60) category with 35 points ahead of Gopal Chitrakar, who accumulated 34 points.
HK Singh won the longest drive award, while Maj NW Lama emerged the golfer closest to the pin.
In the ladies putting competition organised for the non-golfers, Dafne Chauhan came first, beating Mrs Bhardwaj. Col RI Sharma won the booby (best sportmanship) prize and Dr Bhek Bahadur Thapa was the best among super senior (above 70) golfers.
In all, 86 golfers — including seven in ladies and three in super senior sections — took part in the Indian Embassy’s annual event.
Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Shiv Shankar Mukherjee gave away prizes and gift hampers to the winners and promised to give continuity to the event in the years to come. Ambassador Mukherjee also thanked all the participants and sponsors for their support in the event.
