Riders, Dragon register victories

Rajbiraj, June 18

Rupani Riders and Dakneswari Dragon registered victories in the second edition of the Mayor Cup Saptari Premier League here at the Public Bindeshwori School grounds today.

Riders defeated Tilathi Koiladi Giants by five runs in the rain-hit match which was reduced to fiveover-a-side.

Batting first, Riders posted 32-8 before restricting Giants to 27-0.

Riders skipper Mehboob Alam was the lone batsman to score in double figures, with 10 off four balls that included one each boundary and six. For Giants, Anil Yadav took three wickets, while Rohit Singh claimed two and Kamal Oli grabbed one.

In reply, Giants did not lose any wicket but they fell five runs short. Skipper Rohan BK remained unbeaten on 12 runs, while Sunil Dhamala scored 11 not out. The Giants needed 11 runs from the last over but Saidullah Ansari conceded just five. Anoj Yadav of Riders, who conceded eight runs in two overs, was named the man of the match.

In another match, Dragon beat Bode-Barsaein Thunders by seven wickets.

Batting first, Thunders posted 118-9 in their allotted 20 overs before Dragon overcame the total losing three wickets with two overs to spare.

Bishal Sushling top scored for Dragon with an unbeaten 35 runs, while skipper Pushpa Thapa scored 29 not out. The duo added 39 runs for the unbroken fourth wicket partnership.

Skipper Thapa had earlier shared a 45-run stand with Dipesh Kandel, who scored 24 runs. Thunders captain Manjeet Shrestha, Minas Thapa and Open Rai took one wicket each.

Earlier, Thunders skipper Shrestha top scored for the team with 24 runs, while Mukund Yadav scored 20 and Adarsha Yadav remained unbeaten on 17 runs. Pawan Das chipped in with 15 runs.

Chitra Bahadur Thapa, Robin Singh and Dipesh Kandel took two wickets each for Dragon.
