Rupandehi Challengers, CYC Attariya register victories

DHANGADHI: Rupandehi Challengers and CYC Attariya secured victories during the third edition of Ruslan Dhangadhi Premier League here at the Fapla International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Dipendra Singh Airee's CYC Attariya beat Sompal Kami's Dhangadhi Stars by five runs and Basanta Regmi's Rupandehi Challengers defeated Karan KC's Biratnagar Kings by five wickets.

Airee won the toss and elected to bat first before being bowled out for a paltry score of 95/5 in 20 overs.

With a meagre score to defend, man-of-the-match Sunny Patel and spinner Bhuwan Karki shared six-wickets between them to bowl out Dhangadhi six-runs short of victory in a low-scoring thriller today.

Patel who top-scored with the bat--35 runs off 28 balls with two fours and two sixes, returned with the ball to take two early scalps to dent Dhangadhi Stars chase.

In another match, Rupandehi Challengers see-off Biratnagar Kings by five wickets and 41 balls to spare to register two wins in a trot. With this victory, Challengers top the six-team table with four points from two matches.

After winning the toss, Kings opted to bat first before posting a low score of 93/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Local boy Lalit Bhandari rattled the Kings innings with two quick wickets before Puneet Mehra unsettled the middle-order batsmen with three scalps.

In reply, Challengers were also pegged back for 19/3 at one stage. However, man-of-the-match Puneet Mehra engineered the chase with a whirlwind 46 runs off just 27 balls studded with two fours and four towering sixes.

Avinash Yadav took two wickets and other bowlers chipped in with a wicket each but it was a tough ask for them to defend such a low total.
