Sabita makes bitter exit
KATHMANDU: Sabita Maharjan made a bitter exit from the first Asian Martial Arts Championship in Bangkok today.
The medal hopeful taekwondo player Sabita was injured during the second round of her pre quarter-final bout against Kazakhstan’s S Sradorova. Sabita lost the 51-55kg section bout as per the majority referee’s decision after the match ended in a draw.
Though the players failed to earn any medal in Judo and Taekwondo, a medal in Wushu is guaranteed for Nepal. Jharana Gurung is assured of a medal as only three countries — Nepal, Philippines and China — have registered their names in the below-66kg section.
In the day’s draw, the 10th South Asian Games gold medallist Raj Kumar Rasaili and Alina Chaudhary were drawn against Indian opponents in the quarters. Yuvraj Gurung was drawn against a tough Hong Kong opponent.
