Sachin, Ganguly hit centuries

Chittagong, May 19:

Sachin Tendulkar and Saurav Ganguly brought up their centuries on Saturday as India compiled a commanding total of 384 for six wickets in a rain disrupted second day’s play of the first Test against Bangladesh.

India faced just 20 overs after early rain and a soggy outfield caused the start of the second day’s play to be delayed by seven hours at Chittagong Shahid Ruhul Amin Stadium, adding 89 runs for the loss of three wickets.

Tendulkar added 21 to his overnight score of 80 to bring up his record 36th Test century, before he was caught by Mohammad Ashraful off a Shahadat Hossain ball.

Ganguly added 18 runs to his overnight tally of 82 to just reach the 100 mark before being caught by Mohammad Rafique off Mashrafee Bin Mortaza (3-95). Rafique bowled Romesh Powar for seven to further disrupt India’s momentum, before Mohindra Dhoni smashed six fours to race to 36 of 35 balls. At close, Dhoni and Anil Kumble (1) were not out.
