Sahara Club makes an early exit after loosing to Far-western XI

KATHMANDU: Defending Champion and host Sahara club has faced an early exit from the 16th Aaha Rara Gold Cup Football Tournament after facing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Far-western XI, on Tuesday.

Dhan Bahadur Thapa, Mani Ram Chaudhary and Rakesh Hamal netted one goal each for Far-west in an opening match of the tournament played at Pokhara Stadium.

With the win, Far-west has secured its berth in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Thapa put Far-west in the driving seat scoring an opening goal in the 25th minute and Chaudhary doubled the tally in the 78th minute. Likewise, Hamal struck Far-west’s third goal of the match in the stoppage time.

A total of 12 clubs including one Indian and one Bangladeshi are taking part in the tournament. The winner of the competition will bag a purse of Rs 700,100 while the runner-up will get Rs 351,000.
