Sharma, Mukhiya advance to quarters

KATHMANDU: Samjhana Sharma of Banke and Sunaina Mukhiya of Zest Badminton Academy advanced to the women’s singles quarter-finals of the Annapurna International Corporate Badminton Tournament here at the Nepal APF Club covered hall, Halchowk on Sunday.

Similarly, Tribhuvan Army Club’s Nangshal Tamang, Rashila Maharjan, Anumaya Rai and Amita Giri along with Nepal APF Club’s Shova Gautam and Sima Rajbanshi made it to the last 16. Sulochana Bhaktaraj of Ilam, Sita Rai of Zest, Pooja Bista of Rupandehi, Saraswoti Bohara of Shikhar Badminton, Thinle Demo of Bhutan and Dilmi Diyas of Sri Lanka earned berths in pre-quarters.

In men’s singles category, 11 Nepali shuttlers made it to the pre-quarters. TAC’s Ratnajit Tamang, Nabin Shrestha and Prajwal Maharjan, APF’s Bijit Thapa Magar, Nir Bikram Devkota, Sajan Krishna Tamrakar, Suman Limbu and Sudeep Sedhai as well as Nepal Police Club’s Gautam Kayastha, Bishnu Katwal and Dipesh Dhami advanced to the last 16.

Similarly, Anjan Buragohini and Ranjan Buragohini of India, Murad Ali of Pakistan and Ranthuska Arunathilake of Sri Lanka made it to the pre-quarters.
