Rai breaks 12-yr-old record,Devi betters Sanju's marks

Nepal Police Club's Sangita Rai shattered 12-year-old record in women's 48kg weight category during the first Inter-club National Weightlifting Tournament here today.
Rai lifted 54kg in snatch for a total weight of 123kg to surpass Nita Thapa's records. Thapa had lifted 53.5kg in snatch and total of 118.5kg in the 35th Crown Prince Birthday Cup. Rai also lifted 69kg in clean and jerk to better on her personal mark of 66kg. Tribhuvan Army Club's Manisha Ranabhat, who lifted a total weight of 116kg, and Rita Gurung (93kg) won silver and bronze medals respectively.
In junior's 48kg section, Galaxy Fitness' Karina Chaudhary (93kg), Divine Fitness' Pallavi Chaudhary (73kg) and Galaxy's Radha Bhujel (35kg) claimed top three positions.
Similarly, NPC's Devi Kumari Chaudhary broke national record in 53kg weight category lifting 65kg in snatch. Chaudhary surpassed Sanju Chaudhary's record of 63kg lifted during the 23rd Men and eighth Women's National Weightlifting Championship held in Pokhara. Chaudhary lifted a total weight of 145kg to win gold medal.
Kharsal Youth Club's Saraswoti Chaudhary lifted a total weight of 85kg to win silver.
In junior's 53kg event, Om Fitness' Sanju Chaudhary bettered her marks lifting 64kg in snatch and 82kg in clean and jerk for a total lift of 148kg. Earlier, she had lifted 63kg in snatch, 82kg in clean and jerk for a total weight of 145kg in Pokhara.
Meanwhile, TAC's Kamala Shrestha, who competed in women's 58kg section, injured herself while trying to lift 87kg in clean and jerk for national record. Shrestha holds the record with 86kg. Earlier she lifted 68kg in snatch to better her national record of 67kg.
In men's 56kg event, TAC's Tularam Mahato lifted a total weight of 182kg to win gold medal, while his teammate Santosh Thapaliya (165kg) and Ashok Kumar Sah of Birgunj Fitness (125kg) won silver and bronze medals respectively.
In junior category, Kharsal Youth Club's Ram Kumar Yadav (181kg), his teammate Lalbabu Paswan (153kg) and Birgunj United's Raja Sah Kanu (135kg) claimed top three positions respectively.
In 62kg section, TAC's Raju Chaudhary (210kg), NPC's Mui Rai (201kg) and APF's Subhash Kumar Sah (165kg) won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
In junior category, Kharsal's Ramesh Jha (160kg), Divine Physical Fitness' Ganesh Ranabhat (156kg) and Birgunj United's Sajruddin Aalam (150kg) won top three positions.
