KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan Army Club’s Sani Singh Sunar won gold medal in the 19th Men’s Open National and 12th Women Weight Category National Full-contact Karate Tournament here on Wednesday.

In the men’s open category final, Sunar earned a walk-over win from Nepal APF Club’s Rupak Nepali.

Armymen Badri Thapa and Bikash Gurung finished third and fourth respectively. The top four players got Rs 30,000, Rs 15,000, Rs 7,500 and Rs 3,000 respectively.

In the women’s category, TAC’s Ambika Bhujel won gold in the 55kg weight category beating Anupa Nepali of Gorkha.

TAC’s Shanti Thapa finished third and Jhalkumari Mahato of Nawalparasi was fourth. In joint kata, Mahesh Bhujel of Dhading came first ahead of TAC karatekas Harish Kumar Dhami and Prashamsha Pun.

The top three players received Rs 5,000, Rs 2,500 and Rs 1,000 respectively. A total of 70 karatekas competed in the tournament organised by Nepal Kyokushin Karate-Do Association Bajra.
